The holidays can feel loud and rushed. When you’re raising kids on your own, that pressure multiplies. Before you step into another event, gathering, or drop-off, try a simple reset. Five minutes is enough to shift the whole tone of your day.
1. Ground your body.
Sit or stand still. Place both feet flat on the floor. Inhale slowly for four seconds. Exhale for six. Do this three times. Your nervous system responds faster than your to-do list.2. Set one realistic intention.
Skip the perfect outcome. Choose something small and doable:
“I want a calm exit.”
“I want five good minutes with my child.”
“I want to stay present.”
One clear intention reduces pressure and helps you focus on what matters.3. Adjust expectations.
Your holiday doesn’t need to match anyone else’s. Plans may shift. Kids may get overwhelmed. You may feel tired. That’s normal. Give yourself permission to choose what works for your home today.4. Do one tiny act of care.
Drink water. Stretch your shoulders. Step outside for one minute of fresh air. These micro-moments restore more than you think.5. Re-enter slowly.
Before you walk back into the noise, ask:
“What does my family need in the next hour?”
Often it’s connection, steadiness, and simple moments. Not perfection.Five minutes won’t change everything.
But it can change how you feel.
And when you feel grounded, your kids feel it too.
